About Sensei Andreas
We train under the direction of Sensei Michael Andreas. Sensei Andreas (Godan-5th Black) is the first person to receive a menkyo, or teacher's license, from Sensei Sully. To accomplish this, he had to spend many years improving not only his own physical techniques, but especially his teaching techniques.
In the Kantan system, learning to teach starts long before the black belt level. Sensei Andreas has personally taught hundreds of students over the past 20 years. Avidly interested in martial arts since childhood, he has recieved extensive training in the Kantan system and beyond, with experience in Judo, Aikido, and Kung-Fu. He continues to work with the Kantan Yudansha for ongoing improvements in curricula and training methods, and he has traveled extensively to study with other groups. These workshops and seminars have spanned many topics, including Kenpo, Kali, Iaido, Hapkido, Small-Circle Jujutsu, Danzan-Ryu Jujutsu, and Gracie Jujutsu. Through these travels, Sensei Andreas continues to reinforce the theories of Kantan-Kyo while learning new applications.
Sensei Andreas is currently living on temporary assignment in Belgium. Although he is physically distant, he remains actively involved in the dojo and continues to provide direction for our training.
